SCARD Overview

It is the mission, duty and purpose of The SCARd Foundation, Inc. to heal the scars of our first responders, veterans, and loved ones who have been mentally, physically, and/or spiritually scarred by trauma or other mental illnesses such as bipolarism; both nationally and internationally.

It is our duty to be available when we are capable to provide support, awareness, and assistance to those who are there for us on a daily basis. Whether it is responding to a fire, a rescue call, a traumatic experience, during times of war, or a disaster response. The emotional well-being of those who are there for us when we need them the most, as well as the underserved members of our society, is paramount to the development of our future leaders.

We need to lead by example and do our part by supporting our citizens and communities. All it may take is a kind word, a helping hand, a loving heart to break the cycle, so often in our society we tend to overlook the emotional trauma that may affect us. Our goal is to raise awareness and promote critical incident stress management to the communities, especially after a disaster.

Our Work

Education Program

The SCARd Foundation, Inc. provides education on mental stress, awareness of the signs and symptoms, along with online support group that enables the community to support those mentally scard by trauma. We provide this information by presenting live media interviews, online group chats, lectures at schools, libraries and other public venues. These presentations focus on the causes, current efforts and solutions to critical incident stress. They also highlight the geographical, economical, and social aspects of critical incident stress management.

By offering educational events as well as our publications and website, The SCARd Foundation, Inc. is educating the public on subjects useful to individuals and beneficial to the community and is advocating and protecting mental health.

Community Engagement Program

The SCARd Foundation, Inc. aims to build skills and capacity for action around mental health issues that the youth, first responders, military veterans, and underserved community can identify with. This community engagement program assists members of the community build a collective identity in-order to become agents of change within their peer groups. Which will assist in communicating mental health within the community. Raising awareness of the underlying issue of being mentally scarred by trauma and educating the community on the signs and symptoms of critical incident stress and how to mitigate its affects. An example of how we engage the community is by setting up pop-up events at public parks within the communities. These events have food trucks, bounce houses, games, and mental health awareness presentations.

The SCARd Foundation, Inc. will gather evidence of the needs and available resources and use this information to a sustainable purpose, scope and timescale of the engagement and the actions to be taken within each community. We will encourage discussion that will forge new relationships, ensure necessary information is communicated between the participants, and we will work effectively with others that have an interest in the community engagement program.

Disaster Relief

The SCARd Foundation, Inc. aims to provide disaster relief aid in the form of food, water, and other logistical needs to the severely disadvantaged who are affected by either a lack of existing community resources or a lack of funding and supplies to existing local infrastructures in a time of need. The SCARd Foundation, Inc. operates and focuses its resources locally and globally to communities who meet the aforementioned criteria regardless of their geographical location.

Examples of the severely disadvantaged populations would be worldwide poverty and those affected by natural disasters, such as the devastating results of Hurricane Michael in the state of Florida, Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, and the Philippine provinces that suffer severe poverty. It is estimated that there are almost 385 million children living in extreme poverty around the world.

We provide disaster relief aid through organizing volunteers to serve in affected areas by coordinating and carrying out the distribution of food and water.

Distribution to Other Organizations and Individuals

We do not fundraise for any specific organization and The SCARd Foundation, Inc. is not organized solely to contribute or fundraise for any specific entity. However, at the discretion of the board of directors we may at times, choose to contribute to other organizations who share a similar mission and only if the contributions further our exempt status, with the objective to eliminate and alleviate those affected by emotional trauma to protect their Mental Health.

One example of an organization which we may contribute to is the “Miami Fire Fighters Benevolent Association, Inc.” which is a U.S.-based, nonprofit 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization that focuses on raising awareness on Post Traumatic Stress with its military veterans, as well as Critical Incident Stress with its first responders, which shares a similar mission to The SCARd Foundation, Inc. exempt purpose.

Programs for Volunteers

At times, we may provide internships or volunteer opportunities which will provide opportunities for involvement in outreach activities and programs in order to have a greater impact for change. One of the activities that volunteers may be involved in is during disasters to assist in the distribution of logistical items to those impacted by such disaster, and/or during poverty distribution of food, water, and essentials.
